Phoenix CPA | IRS and Social Media

The IRS recently released the top ways for taxpayers to communicate and get help from the IRS by using social media. For taxpayers with smart phones, the IRS has its own app, IRS2Go, with many uses. Taxpayers can get refund status, watch videos, get new tax updates and also follow along with IRS news. IRS2Go is available for the iPhone, iPad, or Android mobile devices.

The IRS also maintains a YouTube channel that contains dozens of videos in English, Spanish or American Sign Language. The name of the channel is irsvideos. The videos have topics ranging from tax tips to ways to protect your identity.

If you prefer your updates in 140 characters or less, taxpayers can follow the IRS on Twitter at @IRSnews. This twitter handle will release daily tax tips as well as tax related announcements. The IRS also issues the same notices and updates in Spanish at @IRSenEspanol. @RecruitmentIRS provides updates for people seeking employment within the IRS.

The IRS Facebook page will provide taxpayers with news and updates as well.

Taxpayers can also keep up to date with tax news via the IRS’ own Tumblr. Tips, videos and podcasts are available in both English and Spanish.

Probably the most convenient way to get your tax news and updates has to be subscribing to the IRS Tax Tips email subscription. Taxpayers can receive free tax filing tips as well as updates on changes to the tax laws delivered straight to their preferred email address. You can subscribe here.

The IRS only uses the social media methods listed above to share information with the public. They do not share your information or answer personal tax or account questions via any of the methods listed. You should never post your social security number on any social media site.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this topic further, don’t hesitate to contact us at Dusseau & Makris, PC, your Phoenix CPA firm.
