Glendale CPA | IRS Directory

The Internal Revenue Service recently launched a brand new, public directory of individuals that are qualified to help individuals with income tax preparation. Individuals can use this new tool to help them select a tax return preparer with the qualifications and credentials that they prefer. The directory includes Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), Enrolled Agents (EAs), attorneys as well as those individuals who have completed the requirements of the IRS’ Annual Filing Season Program. All preparers listed have a valid preparer tax identification number for the current tax year. The directory does not include preparers who have PTINs but are not CPAs, EAs, attorneys or individuals who have passed the Annual Filing Season Program. Volunteer tax return preparers who prepare returns free of charge are also not listed in the directory. You may search the directory here using the preferred credentials or qualifications. It can also filter by preparers located close to your desired area. Directory listings will show the preparer’s name, credentials, city, state and zip code. Tax payers can use this tool to help them find a qualified income tax preparer to help with the new tax issues arising from the Affordable Care Act tax provisions. Tax payers can go to IRS.gov/chooseataxpro to find out more about the different credentials tax preparers can have. Tax payers can also use the IRS’ new partner page for a listing of national non-profit tax professional groups for help in locating more information about a particular credential or tax preparer. Tax payers should be careful when selecting a tax professional. The IRS has video advice on choosing a tax preparer wisely.
